Upper School Students Present Oral Essays

Mr. Brunson is new to our faculty and teaches our 9th, 10th, and 11th grade Pre-AP and AP humanities courses. Mr. Brunson’s classes are both text-based and student-led, meaning that classes are not only primarily discussion-based, but students also have regular speaking assignments. Essays are written in class by hand, but then students are also asked to present oral essays throughout the year.

Using Hellenic Mental Architecture (the process by which Greeks memorized their epic poems), students embody their essays for presentations. During this first round, 9th grade students presented literary critical essays on “Mythology” by Edith Hamilton, 10th grade students on “Aristotle for Everyone” and 11th grade students on “Robinson Crusoe”.

We will be sure to keep you posted as these talented young people continue this pattern throughout the year!
