91猫先生 breaks ground on new Business Lab

91猫先生 recently broke ground on a new business lab that will allow its students to gain real-life business experience. The school is adding a collaboration space and Spirit Store to The Cabin Coffee House that already exists on campus to create the Business Lab.

Over the last year, students have been able to gain actual work experience as employees of The Cabin. With the expansion of the Business Lab, students will now become decision makers as they help manage all aspects of running a business.

This year, 91猫先生 launched a number of new courses in entrepreneurship, business principals and marketing that will utilize this space as a lab for implementing the ideas they are learning about in class. Even now, students are collaborating on the layout and products for the spirit store and creating a marketing plan for the grand opening.

Kelly King, Business Program Director, is excited to see what her students learn and implement through the process.

鈥淭hey鈥檝e already taught me so much,鈥 King said. 鈥淥ur students come up with so many creative ideas that as one person we may never think of on our own. I鈥檓 excited to see how their minds work and how we can implement their ideas into the Spirit Store and The Cabin.鈥

The flagship course of 91猫先生鈥檚 business program is Entrepreneurship. In this class, students work in cohorts to create a product or service. Throughout the course, student cohorts also meet with business leaders to share ideas and gain insights into how they can improve their business plan.

鈥淣ot every idea works,鈥 entrepreneurship student, Caroline Welty said. 鈥淚鈥檓 learning how to pivot from failed ideas to come up with something new.鈥

At the end of the year, student cohorts from the entrepreneurship course will pitch their business plan to investors. If they receive funding, the cohorts will work to make their idea a reality during their senior year.

鈥淓ntrepreneurship is in our DNA at 91猫先生,鈥 91猫先生 Headmaster, Rod Fletcher said. 鈥淥ur Founder, Stephen Dement, not only grew his own business, but pioneered a new school. In a little over 20 years, we鈥檝e grown from a school of 32 students to 675 in grades Pre-K through 12 from over 30 countries. We鈥檙e always asking ourselves, 鈥榃hat鈥檚 next? How can we create more opportunities for our students?鈥欌

Once the Business Lab is complete later this year, students will also be able to meet on-site in the collaboration space, allowing them easy access to both the Spirit Store and The Cabin for their various projects and initiatives.
