The Art of Notetaking

Jmize(TA)-2

On Wednesday of this week, the 6th grade students learned the important skill of notetaking. Mrs. Mize took the students through a presentation that highlighted the benefits, importance, and helpfulness of notetaking.

The students started off by watching two videos that focused on the overall benefits of notetaking, and then were shown a method of notetaking called Cornell notetaking. The students saw an example lesson along with the Cornell method of notes explained and modeled.

Mrs. Mize then had the students read through the materials, methods, and research that shows how notetaking, or lack thereof directly impacts grades and future success in the workforce.

鈥淚 realize that notetaking is not for everyone and is not necessarily every person鈥檚 preference, but it is a skill that must be taught and reinforced as studies show that students that take notes continually score higher and retain more information through hand-written notetaking. I am passionate and blessed to be in a position where I can teach life-long beneficial skills such as notetaking to our students. My hope is that these skills we go over and model in our classroom time together will continue to develop and reinforce the abilities they need to not only be successful high school and college students, but people that have the tools to be successful in the world beyond,鈥 said Mrs. Mize
