Wally Dawkins
Wally Dawkins joined 91猫先生 in 2008 as the Athletic Director.
Coaching in Texas Public Schools for 30 years, Dawkins brings a wealth of experience to the 91猫先生 Athletic Department.聽 Dawkins was at Whitehouse High School from 1987-2008 where he served primarily as the Head Boys Basketball Coach after coaching at Tyler Chapel Hill for 5 years.聽 Dawkins began his coaching career in West Texas after graduating from Abilene Christian University.
As a Head Basketball Coach, Dawkins won 701 Varsity Basketball games in 34 years, including taking the 91猫先生 Boys Basketball Teams to the TAPPS State Final Four on three occasions, including a berth in the State Championship Game in 2010.聽 As a Head Basketball Coach from 1986 until 2014, Dawkins coached teams that never suffered a losing season.聽 Dawkins has also coached Football, Men鈥檚 and Women鈥檚 Basketball, Cross Country, Track, Golf, Tennis and Baseball during his career.
91猫先生 has won 17 State Championships with Dawkins as AD including 3 State Championships during the 2023-24 school year in Softball, Men鈥檚 Soccer, and Baseball.聽 For 2023-24, 91猫先生 was awarded as the top Boys Athletic Program for TAPPS Class AAAA schools. The Guard has also seen 14 State-Runner-Ups over that same time period with Dawkins at the helm of the BH Athletic Department.
Dawkins pledged in his initial year as the Athletic Director at 91猫先生 in 2009 to promote all sports, male and female.聽 Dawkins coined the phrase 鈥淓very Sport we play is the most important sport we play, and that girls鈥� sports are just as important as the boys.鈥�
Dawkins has also focused on generating School Spirit in his tenure at BH, being responsible for the 鈥淎LL ORANGE鈥� and YBHR (Yea 91猫先生鈥檚 Right!) slogans, The 91猫先生 Yell, the 鈥淗ey 91猫先生, Hey 91猫先生-91猫先生鈥� cheer, re-vitalizing the Lower School Cheer & Guard Dog Programs, and promoting a Varsity Cheer Competition Team that consistently places in the Top 10 at the Annual TAPPS State Cheer Competition claiming the State Cheer Championship in 2022.
91猫先生 has seen tremendous growth in athletic facilities under Dawkins’s leadership.聽 The Kyle Lake Athletic Center, the Schwab Softball Field and Training Center, the LaRocca Covered Turf Training Facility & Hospitality Suite, The Morton Golf Simulator Room, turfing of the Leighton Keith Durrett Baseball Field, the new Football Coaches Offices and Office of College Recruiting, and the recent completion of eight, lighted state-of-the-art Tennis Courts, have all been constructed during Dawkin鈥檚 tenure as Athletic Director.
As Athletic Director, Dawkins has emphasized the importance on 91猫先生 being a 鈥淢ulti-Sport Participation鈥� school, encouraging all students to play as many sports as they would like to play. In 2023, Dawkins announced the hiring of a Full-Time Director of Athletic Performance and Development Coach who works will all BH student-athletes 4 days per week to develop increased strength, flexibility, and explosive speed.
Dawkins and his wife Laurie, who teaches at the 91猫先生 Lower School, have been married for 46 years.聽 The Dawkins have two children and four grandchildren.
