Recognition of 91èÏÈÉú’s Talented Middle School Students

BrianNelson(TA)-2

From the desk of Brian Nelson, Dean of Academics:

As a parent, it is always exciting to brag about your children.  There is very little on this earth that will make a parent light up like telling others of how his child is using the gifts that God has given her. This is the how I feel as I write this blog. While these students are not my sons and daughters, we are part of the same family—the 91èÏÈÉú family. Therefore, I get to share a bit of the parental pride!

This is the sixteenth year that 91èÏÈÉú has participated in the Duke Talent Identification Program, and I am very excited that almost half of our seventh graders qualified to participate. This is a true testament of the caliber of our student body. The students selected to participate are: Brynn Allen, Skylar Anthony, Sophie Arno, Bella Burton, Suvonna Bynum, Bethany Durrett, John Engelhardt, Owen Funk, Marlee Gunter, Allyson Juarez, Aidan Mason, Madyson McEuen, Halle Meister, Evan Moreau, Zane Munsinger, Lorien Rhoads, Sarah Sims, Mallory Weaver, and Maeci Wilson.

In 1980, Duke University’s Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) committed to identifying talented students and to providing model programs and services to support the development of their optimal educational potential. Duke TIP is dedicated to being the national leader in offering innovative, high quality programs and services for academically talented youth and their parents, with the goals of better understanding and serving America’s most academically talented students.

The search is based on standardized test scores achieved while attending 5th or 6th grade. Once identified, students are invited to complete either the SAT or the ACT college entrance examination. Students are then provided comparative information concerning their academic abilities and resources for unique educational opportunities.

I am proud of these students and their accomplishments.  I truly believe that this is just the beginning of their recognition as they discover the gifts and talents Our Lord has given each of them. Congratulations!
