Lady Guard ease past East Texas Christian School, 53-36
LONGVIEW — 91èÏÈÉú’s Ke’Airra Christopher and Lauren Eden combined for 28 points to lead the Lady Guard varsity past East Texas Christian School Tuesday in a non-district road game.
“This was a much-needed win (for momentum) as we prepare for the All Saints Lady Trojans,” Johnson said.
91èÏÈÉú (7-14) is currently 1-1 in TAPPS 3-5A and tied with All Saints for second place in the district.
Against ETCS, the Lady Guard combined for 22 steals and went 6 of 17 from three-point range. Eden finished with four 3-pointers and tied with Kaitlynn Rhea with a team-high four steals apiece.
The Lady Guard trailed 13-11 after the first quarter, but clamped down after that to surrender 23 points the rest of the way.
91èÏÈÉú went in front in the second quarter to lead 24-21 at halftime. The Lady Guard put ETCS in their rearview mirror for good in the third quarter to lead 37-27 entering the fourth quarter.
The Lady Guard stayed in command down the stretch, converting 9 of 14 free throws to seal a 17-point win.
Said Coach Johnson: “We turned up the heat on defense and stayed consistent shooting the ball to keep them (ETCS) at bay.”
91èÏÈÉú will be on the road Friday at Tyler All Saints. Tipoff is at 6 p.m.
