Flying High with Jett

JettParty(TA)-1

For three years Jett has battled Leukemia, but now doctors tell him that he is cancer free.

“It feels great to be done with it. I can’t believe I’m cancer free. Cancer is crazy at first, but once you get use to it, it doesn’t hurt as much. Once you get use to it, you aren’t afraid. If I were to be able to talk to someone who just found out they had cancer, I would tell them about all the stuff I’ve been through. I would tell them to pray. They will be ok if they ask God to help them, and they won’t be afraid.”

Jett was diagnosed only a few months after joining our community here at 91èÏÈÉú, and we have been praying for him continuously since we heard the news. It is with great joy that we celebrate with him and his family today, praising God that he is cancer free.

Jett’s third grade class helped him celebrate in the best way – not just with a party, but by giving back. Over the past few weeks classmates have worked for friends and neighbors to raise money to purchase toys for Children’s Medical Center in Dallas. The toys will be given to children fighting cancer, just like Jett has done.

One student, Dylan, decided he wanted to open a Lemonade Stand at his family’s tractor dealership. Dylan made signs, mixed up the lemonade, bought cups, set up a table and a tip jar, and had his little brother Steele help him peddle lemonade!

Dylan’s compassion truly shined through during this project and he beamed as he told customers why he was doing this and told them about his friend Jett, which they were celebrating cancer remission for! Those generous customers donated $98.62 in only 2 hours! As word got around that Dylan was raising money for such a wonderful cause, money started being donated from other friends and relatives, helping him raise $438! Dylan then took this money to Wal-Mart and bought $438 in toys! Dylan is eager to continue to blessing children who are battling cancer.

Other students had raised over $400 and when they went to buy toys to donate together, the store manager at Toys R Us gave them a huge discount so that they could get even more toys for children fighting cancer.

It has been such a blessing to see not only how Jett and his family have weathered this storm in their life, but also how Jett’s classmates have rallied around him to help him in his fight. It is truly a picture of the body of Christ – not only bearing one another’s burdens, but being inspired to help bear the burdens of even more. True love gives back, and these 3rd graders teaching us all what that looks like.
