Earthquake Lab in 6th Grade

Students were given a challenge in sixth grade earth science this week. 聽Students聽modified a cereal box which represented a skyscraper so it can withstand a moderate earthquake.聽 Materials available were rubber bands, string, cotton balls, pennies, pencils, wooden rulers and straws.聽 Students were given about 15 minutes to construct their buildings before the quake. Mrs. Wallace said the excitement and 鈥減lanning noise鈥澛 were music to her ears. Student need to be encouraged to think creatively and problem solve, and activities like this help accomplish that purpose! 聽Many groups were successful with their 鈥渂uildings鈥 and they did withstand the simulated earthquake!IMG_5700.JPG
