Community Helpers

This Friday was an exciting day for the 91èÏÈÉú Pre-k and Kindergarten classes. Students are going to get the chance to visit with real community helpers that work right here in Bullard.

This week our students have been learning about all different types of Community Helpers and what each one does to make our community great! Whether it’s the garbage man who help us keep our school and park clean or the policeman who keeps our school and town safe the students realize that each one plays an important role in their everyday lives. What better way to end the week than by talking to our local community helpers, seeing what they drive, discovering the tools they use and let them know that we appreciate what they do for us?

This is the 8th year that we have had the community helpers come and visit our students and it’s always exciting to see the interaction between the students and our local heroes.

Here’s who all visited:

  • The Bullard Fire Department brought a fire truck, talked with the kids about fire safety, and the importance of having a meeting place in case of an emergency.
    • They also brought the Smoke House, which is an amazing educational tool. This house (and the firemen of course) is a hands on way of teaching  the students what to do in case of a fire.  The house is filled with fog, the smoke detector goes off and the students are put into action with the firemen helping them through the scenario.
  • The Bullard Police Department brought a vehicle for the students to tour. The officers talked to the students about stranger danger and how to call 911.
  • ETMC brought an ambulance and a robot ambulance named “Andy,” the students got to tour the ambulance and talked to Andy.
  • This year Flight for Life came out to visit the students, landing a helicopter right next to the school. The students got to meet the pilot and flight nurses, check out the helicopter and ask lots of questions.
