Academic Quiz Bowls can be as intense as basketball games
The Academic Quiz Bowl team consists of Nate Dahn, Callie Bailey, Marlee Gunter, Suvonna Bynum, Boston Durrett and Joshua Baker. The Academic Quiz Bowl competition began back in November with preliminary rounds being held at the East Texas Fairgrounds. Unfortunately, our team lost in a close round to UT Chapel Hill and Moore MST Magnet school, which placed us in the consolation bracket for the actual tournament which began January 10th. Our team came back and won against Carlisle and E. J. Moss Intermediate, Lindale which lead to a second round of play against Athens Christian Preparatory School. It was a close match, but 91猫先生 came out ahead and will now continue tournament play on January 20th.
There are 21 school competing in the Academic Quiz Bowl. There are four rounds of play in which questions are asked from current events, geography, English, science, mathematics and a potpourri category which can be just about anything. The students have competed well and are working hard to be able to continue in the tournament. The competition is steep, but the students are rising to the occasion and seem to be gaining confidence with each meet. One student even remarked that, 鈥渢his is more intense than the basketball game last night.鈥
鈥淚 am so proud of how far the team has advanced and so enjoy watching them compete and realize how much they actually know,鈥 the sponsor, Jenny Wallace, said.
