8th Graders Study Design Process

Eighth graders are learning about the design process. To introduce the subject, students were challenged to build a barge out of a 20 X 20 cm piece of foil and 4 straws that could hold the greatest amount of pennies. Students built the bridge and then tested it. The range of pennies held was from 3 pennies to 118 pennies on the barge built by William Roberts and Josh Baker. Students then analyzed why the bridges held differing amounts and decided how they could change their design to carry more weight.
