7th Bible Celebrates Passover
This week in Bible 7 students spent time learning about the LORD’s seminal act of salvation in the Old Testament, the Exodus from slavery in Egypt. After spending time learning about the character of Moses and the first 9 plagues God sent to persuade the Pharaoh to release Israel, we took time to contemplate the meaning of the Passover.
As a class, we engaged in the feast of Unleavened Bread as a way of connecting our lives with God’s great actions of the past. We eat the unleavened bread in the recognition that God’s plans require us to be ready to move out in faith when we may not expect it. We eat the bitter herbs as a reminder of the bitter experience of Israel’s slavery and a recognition of our own bitterness as Christians living in a world and culture that God has not yet redeemed. And lastly, we drink water as a way of remembering the fact that it was God’s power alone that brought salvation to the Israelites and judgment upon Pharaoh and his army. In the same way, as Christians we meditated on the fact that as a people, we must look forward to Jesus’ appearing with faithfulness, hope, and love even in the face of evil in this world.
