6th Science Studies Rock Cycle
Sixth graders did a rock cycle lab this week using different kinds of chocolate morsels to represent聽the various聽minerals in a rock.聽 First, students聽weathered their rocks and then layered them in a piece of foil.聽 They placed books on top to apply pressure like layering in the real world. 聽Students聽then examined their 鈥渟edimentary rock.鈥澛 Next, they applied heat and pressure by smashing their rocks with their hands and squeezing those morsels.聽 Next, they examined their 鈥渕etamorphic rock.鈥澛 Lastly, they placed their rock in a hot griddle and it was allowed to melt and then cool resulting in an 鈥渋gneous rock.鈥澛 The students enjoyed the tasty and good smelling way to study the rock cycle.
