6th & 7th Grade Humanities

This past week our 6th & 7th graders have been busy in Mrs. Figueroa’s humanities classes! Here is a snapshot of two interactive lessons they participated in this week.

Adaptation/Modification Lesson:

6th & 7th grade Humanities students studied the five themes of geography and participated in a concept attainment lesson. This lesson allows students to discover the ideas and concepts on their own. Critical thinking skills and analysis skills are strengthened as the students compare and contrast the mysterious concepts. By the end of the lesson, our students have mastered the similarities and differences between human’s adaptation to the environment and humans’ modification of the environment.

6th Grade Humanities – Culture Lesson

As an introduction to our unit on culture, 6th grade Humanities students participated in an interactive quiz online. They predicted various cultural traits from countries around the world. This activity introduces the idea that culture is a way of life and allows the students to understand how other’s cultures can be very different from their own.

6th Grade Humanities students wrapped up their unit over culture by creating poster collages filled with culture traits. Students worked in groups to find examples of shelter, clothing, languages, arts, music, government systems, education systems, religions, family structures, and more. They did a fantastic job!
