5th Grade Visits Middle School
On Monday, the 5th graders were given the grand tour of the middle school campus by Mrs. Tammy Hayes, principal, and student leaders she chose to help.聽 Our personal tour guides included 聽the middle school students Justin Powell (8), James Shipp (8), Harley Klassen(7), Hannah Haynes (7), and Rebekah Thrift (8).
Our soon-to-be 6th graders were welcomed in the Lauderdale Hall reception area by Mrs. Hayes and the student tour guides.聽 First, we toured the administrative office area, the fine arts and the computer classrooms, and, most importantly, the cafeteria/Commons. After all, we all know that lunch is one of the highlights of our school day.
From the Commons area, 5th graders took a complete tour of the Kyle Lake Athletic Center where Coach Dawkins spoke to the students about the physical education and athletic programs at The 91猫先生 Middle School.聽 Coach Dawkins stressed the importance of keeping their grades above passing in order to take part in athletics.聽 Next, our tour guides took the kids to the gym and a tour of their dressing room area.聽 Comments made by the younger students 聽were 聽unanimous 鈥 they thought they鈥檇 skip the shower portion of dressing out for P.E.
Then, our almost 6th graders were shown the Ornelas Hall where the majority of their core class subjects will be taught in 6th grade.聽 We even got to witness the 鈥渃hange of classes鈥 phenomenon occur.聽 Middle School students shot out of their classrooms like they were shot from the Guard cannon.聽 Our kids were taking mental notes of the fast and furious activity between class.聽 Definitely something they鈥檒l want to do next year.聽 The highlight of our walk down the long hallway was not to see where their language arts, science, or art rooms were located, but to see where their lockers will be located next year.
Student Panel: Last, but not least, our students enjoyed a leisurely walk across the quadrangle to the student activity center at Founder鈥檚 Hall.聽 Waiting for us was a student panel.聽 In addition to our tour guides from earlier, Mrs. Hayes also invited Carson Richards (6), Neely Clark (6), Mason York (7), and Sydney McNeel (7) to join the panel. 聽聽Together, they comprised a very knowledgeable and experienced student question-answer panel.聽 This was a great opportunity for our kids to ask those important questions, such as 鈥渨hat is middle school like?”
Our students really appreciated the time and effort of everyone involved to make this transition to 6th grade as helpful as it was!聽 Thank you to all of our guides, Mrs. Hayes, and Mrs. Bell!聽 The student leaders did an awesome job as they spoke from their personal experiences.聽 Among other 聽helpful bits of knowledge, now our kids know about the importance of keeping up with assignments, getting involved in all activities offered, maintaining their passing grades, and enjoying favorite foods served in the cafeteria.
